METHODS · Autopay vs reminder
Autopay vs bill reminder (choose per bill)
Fixed rent often goes on autopay or a standing order. A power bill that looks different every month is better to check first. You choose per bill. Smart Bill Reminder reminds you before the due date; it does not pay for you or set up autopay.
When autopay fits
With autopay or a standing order, the amount is taken from your account on a schedule - without you tapping pay that day. It fits when:
- the amount is usually the same (rent, a fixed installment),
- you know the payee and do not expect surprise totals,
- you do not need to read the bill every cycle before the money leaves.
Downside: if the amount jumps, you may miss it. To pause or change the setup, you do that in your bank or with the biller.
When a bill reminder fits
You get a phone reminder before the due date. You check the amount, then pay where you already pay. It fits when:
- the amount moves (usage-based utilities),
- the bill is new, shared, or one-off,
- you want a look before you pay.
A reminder does not move money. After you pay, mark the bill paid so the list stays current.

Reminders in Smart Bill Reminder
For bills you want to review first:
- Get Smart Bill Reminder on Google Play.
- Home + → New Bill → title, amount, due date → Save.
- Settings → Bill reminders → turn on notifications and set how many days before due they arrive.
- When notified: check the amount, pay as usual, then Mark as paid.
Mark as paid is a list status. The app does not move money or set up autopay.
Quick answers
Does Smart Bill Reminder run autopay?
No. It reminds you about due dates. You pay where you already pay, then mark the bill paid in the app.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is a method comparison for one bill at a time, not financial advice.
Is this the same as notes vs calendar vs app?
No. That page is about where you keep the list. This one is automatic payment versus a reminder before you pay. See notes, calendar, or a bill app?
