How to Stop Paying for Unused Subscriptions on Android

Streaming, a gym, or SaaS you still pay for but don't open keeps charging until you cut or keep on purpose. List those known idle paid services on your phone, turn on due-date bill reminders, then decide at the provider when the alert arrives.

Add the services you still pay for but don't use, then use Settings Bill reminders.

List the services you still pay for but don't use

Unused is your call. The app does not watch which apps you open. You already know which paid services you still fund but no longer use. Put them on the phone so the next charge has a due date.

From Home or Bills, tap +, then pick one path:

  1. Add subscriptions (good for known paid recurring): pick or name the service, set amount and billing cycle, then save. Saving adds the subscription and keeps a local recurrence so the next charge can appear unpaid.
  2. New Bill (simplest one next charge): enter name, amount, category, and set the due date to the next charge day. Tap Save. Leave that bill unpaid so reminders can fire.

You do not need Save as series to start. Series create needs a paid unlock and is optional later. This page is not a forgotten-subscriptions audit: if you need to discover what you already saved, see forgotten subscriptions on Android.

Turn on due-date bill reminders

Open Settings, keep Bill reminders on, then set how many days before due you want alerts:

  • Days Before Yellow Alert (default 3)
  • Days Before Red Alert (default 0, due today)
  • One daily Reminder time for the whole app

When an unpaid next charge enters that yellow or red window, the daily check can post Bill Reminder or Bill Due Today. These are Free due-date notifications for unpaid bills. They are not Cancellation reminder chips, and they are not a per-subscription Free cadence.

Android may ask for notification permission after you save a new bill. Allow notifications if you want the reminders to show. Delivery is not guaranteed at an exact clock minute; WorkManager and battery limits can shift it, often by about ten minutes.

Cut or keep when the reminder arrives

When the heads-up arrives, decide outside the app: cut (cancel in the service's own account or site) or keep (pay at the provider, then optionally mark the entry paid in-app). Mark as paid updates the local status only. It does not cancel the subscription, pause billing, or block the merchant charge.

If your job is to cancel yourself before renewal with cancel timing tools, use the sibling guide to cancel a subscription before renewal. If you still need to find charges on a bank statement, see check subscriptions on a bank card. This article stays on cut vs keep for services you already know you still pay for but don't use.

Recurring audit for a fuller list (optional)

After you have entries, open Recurring audit from Settings, the Subscriptions area, or the home teaser for a broader view of what you saved. Free sees a teaser only. Premium unlocks the full audit tools. There is no separate “Subscription audit checklist” screen or PDF in the app.

Do not treat an “unused” badge in the audit as proof you still pay for a service you don't use. That signal is about gaps in saved due dates, not app usage. For this waste-cut job, you decide unused; the app tracks charges and reminders.

Quick answers

Does the app find unused apps for me?

No. Unused is your decision. The app does not read app usage or auto-detect idle services. You list the paid services you still fund but no longer use.

Do I need Premium to track unused subscriptions and get reminders?

No. Add subscriptions or one unpaid next-charge bill plus Settings yellow and red Bill reminders works without a paid unlock. Full Recurring audit tools need Premium.

Does the reminder cancel the subscription or stop the charge?

No. The reminder only heads you up before the next due date. Cancel in the service's own account or site if you decide to cut. Mark as paid updates the entry on your phone only.
